Sirens: 'Proactive patrol' nets meth; Laser pointer aimed at motorists; Arrests for DUI; Lewis County Jail statistics

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Found property

• A passport belonging to a homeless man was placed into found property at the Centralia Police Department in the 100 block of West Maple Street just before 8:10 a.m. on Feb. 9.

 

Drug violations

• A 28-year-old Chehalis woman was arrested in the 1200 block of Mellen Street for an outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrant and for possession of meth and fentanyl.

• While on “proactive patrol” in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 10, an officer checked a suspicious vehicle parked in a business parking lot and “observed a bag containing suspected methamphetamine inside,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The officer contacted the vehicle’s owner and his associate and received consent to search the vehicle. Inside, officers found meth and drug paraphernalia. “During the investigation, one of the males admitted to delivering a large chunk of methamphetamine to the other male for money,” according to the Centralia Police Department. One man, 58, of Federal Way, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for delivery of a controlled substance. The other man, 41, of Federal Way, was cited for knowing possession of a controlled substance.

• A 51-year-old Centralia man was cited for possession of meth at the intersection of Ellsbury Street and Lakeshore Drive just after 6:50 a.m. on Feb. 11.

• A 33-year-old Salkum man was arrested in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 11 for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant after he set up a tent in the city park. Suspected meth was found on his person at the time of his arrest.

 

Criminal trespass

• A homeless woman was reportedly “drinking and refusing to leave” a shelter in the 100 block of North Gold Street at 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 9. She was trespassed from the establishment.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Two different callers reported “a green laser pointer was pointed at them while driving” in the 100 block of East Sixth Street just after 8:35 p.m. on Feb. 9. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

• A business in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue reported “a suspicious male carrying around a knife” just before 1:40 a.m. on Feb. 10. Officers contacted the “transient suspect” in the area. No crime could be established.

 

DUI

• A 35-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of East Magnolia Street and North Tower Avenue at 11:50 p.m. on Feb. 9 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

• A 30-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 400 block of South Silver Street at 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 11 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

• Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block Borst Avenue at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11 for a report of a man “aggressively demanding drugs from two separate individuals.”  While officers were en-route to the scene, one of the victims informed Lewis County Dispatch that the unknown male was now chasing them on foot. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the male suspect, who denied having or using drugs or alcohol. The suspect male was in his running vehicle, in the wrong lane of travel next to the victim vehicle when officers arrived. “The male was actively yelling at the victim,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The suspect, 37, of Puyallup, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence and possession of meth.

 

Theft

• A business in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue reported a shoplifting suspect to the police just after 8:55 p.m. on Feb. 10. The suspect left the store before officers arrived. An officer contacted the suspect at his residence a short time later, obtained the stolen property and returned it to the store. The suspect was trespassed from the store at the store management’s request.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A homeless person from Olympia was warned for “acting disorderly in a parking lot” in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 11:10 a.m. on Feb. 11.

 

Vehicle accidents

  A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 400 block of East Summa Street just after 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 11.

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Pearl and West Main Street just after 4:55 p.m. on Feb. 11. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information on who was injured or the extent of their injuries.

 

Overdose

• Officers responded to a shelter in the 1000 block of North Gold Street just after 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 11 to assist Riverside Fire Authority and American Medical Rescue with a possible overdose.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Assault

• A male sustained a facial laceration in an assault that was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 12:50 p.m. on Feb. 9. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 10 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 9 is under investigation.

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 9:10 a.m. on Feb. 11 is under investigation.

• Just before 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 11, a parent called to report their son had run away from a church in the 1800 block of South Market Boulevard after he was involved in a “physical altercation” with his ex-girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. Officers determined there was probable cause for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, but were unable to locate the suspect at the time of the report.

 

Scams



• A caller in the 1900 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported “scammers online advertising their vehicles” just before 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 9.

• Just before 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 9, a caller reported someone claiming to represent Lewis County PUD went to a property in the 500 block of West Main Street and advised the power was going to be shut off. Lewis County PUD confirmed it was fraudulent.

 

Theft

• Two suspects were cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 9:35 p.m. on Feb. 9.

• A woman was cited for shoplifting alcohol from a store in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 10.

• A possible vehicle prowl was reported in the 600 block of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue just after 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 11.

 

Disputes

• A “disturbance/dispute” reported in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 9 is under investigation.

• A possible physical dispute was reported in the 10 block of North Market Boulevard just after 12:15 p.m. on Feb. 10.

 

Criminal trespass

• A subject was reportedly trespassing on property in the 1500 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 9.

• Just after 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 10, a resident  in the 200 block of Southwest 11th Street asked officers to trespass a woman who was on his porch. The caller reported the woman had been on his doorstep since midnight.

• A caller requested information on why he was “kicked out” of a property in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 11 a.m. on Feb. 10. The caller advised “he ‘schooled some guys at Bible study.’”

• A subject was cited for trespassing in the 2100 block of North National Avenue just after 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Malicious mischief

• A broken window was reported in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just after 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 10.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A male subject was reportedly “talking loudly on his phone and threatening to punch (the reporting party)” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just before 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 10.

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “ trying to fight some patrons” at a business in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard just after 8:50 p.m. on Feb. 10. He was kicked out of the business and employees asked officers to trespass him from the business.

 

Juvenile problems

  Four juveniles were reportedly “vaping and smoking weed” and “saying slurs” in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 10.

• A group of “younger kids” were reportedly at a building by the water park in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at 10:05 p.m. on Feb. 10.

 

Burglary

• A subject was arrested in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at 9:55 p.m. on Feb. 10 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• At 3:55 a.m. on Feb. 11, a caller in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue reported “someone outside” had been “jiggling (the) doorknob for the past half hour.” The subject was reportedly “beating on” the caller’s door and a neighbor’s door.

• At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, a caller in the 1300 block of Southwest William Avenue reported someone used their phone number “to order somebody to be killed.”

 

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 800 block of South Market Boulevard just after 1:25 p.m. on Feb. 11.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 133 inmates, including 118 in the general population and 15 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 98 were reported male and 20 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 13 were reported male and two were reported female.
