Sirens: Rochester man arrested for DUI, stolen car; Man arrested after overdose; Custodial assault reported at Green Hill School

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Drug violations

• A man was arrested and released for alleged possession of narcotics in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just before 9:25 a.m. on Jan. 3. The case is under investigation.

• A 29-year-old Chehalis man was cited for driving with a suspended license and for an ignition interlock violation after he was pulled over for a traffic offense at the intersection of Reynolds Avenue and Blair Road at 11:25 a.m. on Jan. 3. During the same traffic stop, a 36-year-old Chehalis woman and a 35-year-old Arizona woman were cited for possession of meth.

 

Theft

• Money was reportedly stolen from the ashtray inside a vehicle in the 300 block of North Buckner Street just before 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 3.

• A 35-year-old Olympia man was cited for third-degree theft in the 100 block of West High Street after he allegedly shoplifted over $300 in merchandise from an outlet store.

• A 33-year-old Tumwater woman was cited for shoplifting boots from an outlet store in the 1300 block of Lum Road just before 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 3.

• A man and a woman allegedly shoplifted several pairs of shoes from a store in the 100 block of West High Street at 3:50 p.m. on Jan. 4 and fled in a passenger car. The suspects match descriptions of suspects in a prior case, according to the Centralia Police Department. Both cases are under investigation.

• An electric bicycle was reported stolen from outside a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 12:20 a.m. on Jan. 5. The case is under investigation.

 

Assault

• A juvenile male accused of assaulting another juvenile male was arrested in the 900 block of Johnson Road at approximately 12:10 p.m. on Jan. 3 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for fourth-degree assault.

• A domestic violence fourth-degree assault reported in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 is under investigation. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and officers were unable to locate him.

 

Malicious mischief

• A homeless man was reportedly “throwing chairs and breaking property” inside the lobby of a motel in the 1200 block of Mellen Street just after 11:50 p.m. on Jan. 3, causing approximately $600 in damage. The man, 38, of Tukwila, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree malicious mischief.

 

Possession of a stolen vehicle/DUI

• The Flock Safety camera alerted officers to a stolen vehicle at the intersection of Northeast Hampe Way and North National Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 4. An officer located the vehicle traveling southbound on South Gold Street after it drove into Chehalis. Officers with the Centralia Police Department, Chehalis Police Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol surrounded the vehicle after it pulled into a gas station near Interstate 5 Exit 79. Officers took the driver, a 36-year-old Rochester man, into custody without incident. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and DUI.

 

Illegal burn

• A fire was reported in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just after 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 4. An officer responded and extinguished a vacant campfire that had begun spreading to nearby bushes. “The fire was next to a transient camp that appeared had been just abandoned,” according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers were unable to locate any suspects.

 

Camping violation

• Two homeless women were given a verbal warning for camping in Borst Park in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue just after 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 4. The women were also given information on local resources.

 

Criminal trespass

• Officers were asked to move along several people who were loitering at a train station in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue just before 8:05 a.m. on Jan. 4.

• A man was reportedly loitering in the parking lot of a grocery store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 11:10 a.m. on Jan. 4. The man refused to leave until the manager called the police. The man left the scene before officers arrived.

• A 45-year-old homeless man from Pe Ell was trespassed from a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 for allegedly “vomiting in the cooler area by the deli” earlier in the day, leaving, then returning to the business.

 

Abandoned vehicle

• A travel trailer was dumped in Riverside Park in the 300 block of Lowe Street at 9:15 a.m. on Jan. 4. The trailer had no plates or identifiable numbers on it, so officers posted a 24-hour notice to have it removed.

 

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and West High Street just after 5:55 p.m. on Jan. 4. One car had rear-ended another car, which was stopped for traffic, while changing lanes.

 

Overdose

• A suspected fentanyl overdose was reported at a “gas station/food mart” in the 1000 block of Elsberry Street at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 4. Medical aid units administered Narcan and CPR to the subject, who was then transported to the hospital. An investigation into where the subject got the fentanyl led officers to an RV park, where officers located a 26-year-old homeless man from Chehalis who had unrelated Lewis County District Court warrants out for his arrest.  The man was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Vehicle accidents

• A vehicle accident with injuries that was reported at the intersection of South Market Boulevard and Southwest First Street just before 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 is under investigation.



• A bus reportedly hit a pole at the intersection of Northwest Park Street and Northwest Chehalis Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 3. No injuries were reported.

• A vehicle reportedly struck a 52-year-old male pedestrian at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and state Route 6 at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 3. The pedestrian was injured but stable, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just before 8:40 a.m. on Jan. 4.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 is under investigation.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A caller in the 100 block of Southwest William Avenue reported seeing a male subject who “looks like he made a drug deal” at 1:05 p.m. on Jan. 3. 

 

Disorderly conduct

• A male subject was reportedly “yelling and screaming” in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 4.

 

Child abuse or neglect

• A case of child abuse or neglect reported in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 3 is under investigation.

 

Theft

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:10 p.m. on Jan. 3.

• A vehicle prowl reported in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place at 1:40 p.m. on Jan. 4 is under investigation.

 

Illegal burn

• A case of second-degree reckless burning reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4 p.m. on Jan. 4 is under investigation.

 

Disputes

• A “disturbance/dispute” reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 7:05 a.m. on Jan. 4 is under investigation.

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just before 9:45 a.m. on Jan. 4.

 

Criminal trespass

• A male subject who reportedly asked the manager of a storage business in the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue for a unit “that he could ‘do something dangerous in’” was trespassed from the property at 1:35 p.m. on Jan. 3.

• A homeless subject was moved along from the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 4.

• A disorderly male subject who reportedly said “I need to go cool down outside before I beat someone up” was trespassed from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 4.

• A male subject reportedly trespassed on property in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 5:55 p.m. on Jan. 4. The subject was reportedly “pounding on windows and harassing customers.”

 

Assault

• A custodial assault that occurred at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street on Dec. 8 was reported at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Jan. 4.

• A case of fourth-degree assault was reported in the 1300 block of Southeast Wilson Avenue just before 12:45 a.m. on Jan. 5. Officers were unable to locate and arrest the suspect when the incident was reported. Charges have been referred to a local prosecutor’s office. 

 

Malicious mischief

• Damage to an exterior garbage can in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was reported just before noon on Jan. 4. The Chehalis Police Department already had a report on the damage from another reporting party.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 150 inmates, including 137 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 115 were reported male and 22 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
