Sirens: Teen arrested for assaulting mother; Man accused of choking woman; Lewis County Jail statistics

Centralia Police Department

Hit-and-run

• A citizen in the 600 block of South Rock Street reported a damaged utility box at 8:42 a.m. Dec. 27. It’s not known when the damage occurred.

• A hit-and-run was reported by the owner of a parked vehicle at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 in the 300 block of West Pine Street after she noticed damage to the front right bumper and fender area. The case is still under investigation.

 

Theft

• A business reported a theft of a Stihl chainsaw from the back of their business vehicles in the 1100 block of Kresky Avenue at 9:32 a.m. Dec. 27.  The victim advised officers that the theft occurred approximately a month ago and that they did not have any suspect information.

• At 9:46 a.m. Dec. 27, officers were advised of a theft that had just occurred at a grocery store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue. A male suspect was observed concealing merchandise and leaving the store without paying for the items. The suspect then got into a vehicle driven by a female. The vehicle was last seen traveling south. Chehalis Police Department officers located and stopped the vehicle. A Centralia officer arrived to continue the theft investigation. The suspect, a 39-year-old Centralia man, was issued a citation for third-degree theft and booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant.

• Two unknown males and two unknown females stole several bags of merchandise from a shoe store in the 100 block of West High Street, according to a report at 6:51 p.m. Dec. 27. 

• Propane was reportedly stolen from a trailer in the 700 block of South Gold Street sometime in the past few days, according to a report at 1:47 p.m. Dec. 28.

 

Assault

• A 15-year-old boy was arrested for assaulting his mother during a dispute in the 3000 block of Russell Road. The alleged assault was reported at 9:38 p.m. Dec. 27.

• A 24-year-old Centralia man was arrested and booked into Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault after being involved in an altercation in which he allegedly choked his girlfriend several times. Officers responded to the 600 block of Bengal Court at about 12:32 p.m. for a report of what sounded like a physical dispute between a male and female in which the female was screaming for help and saying she could not breathe. The investigation revealed the woman, a 22-year-old from Rochester, was the respondent in a protection order that prohibited her from being with the man. She was arrested for violating the order as well as two outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrants.

• A 38-year-old Chehalis man was arrested and booked for third-degree assault after allegedly pushing a police officer while being arrested at about 1 p.m. Dec. 28 in the 1000 block of South Gold Street. The man allegedly provided a false name to the officer, who was contacting him regarding a trespassing complaint. The man was allegedly not compliant with the officer when instructed to stop walking away and  told he was under arrest. He resisted arrest and pushed the officer in an attempt to get away. He was also booked into the Lewis County Jail on several outstanding felony warrants.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A resident in the 100 block of Halliday Road reported seeing two males associated with a green Ford Taurus going through mail boxes earlier in the night. No license plate or further description of the males could be provided at the time of the report, which was made at 6:48 a.m. Dec. 28. 

 

Criminal trespassing

• A transient male from Centralia was trespassed from a vehicle repair facility at 9:45 a.m. Dec. 28 in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue after parking his motorhome in the business’s parking lot on Christmas Day and never moving it. The man was given one hour to move the motorhome off the property or the business was going to have it impounded.

 

Chehalis Police Department

Crash

• A milk truck clipped an Acura in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue, according to a report at 8:31 a.m. Dec. 27. There were no injuries.

• A hit-and-run was reported at 2:10 p.m. Dec. 27 in the 900 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue. A caller reported that, sometime in the last few days, damage was done to a fence that separates Maryland Avenue and the freeway. The caller provided information about a possible suspect.

• A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 4:48 p.m. Dec. 27 in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue



 

Criminal trespassing

• Three people who seemed “strung out” were trespassing on property in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard, according to a report at 12:06 p.m. Dec. 27.

• A caller in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue reported attempted theft and kidnapping at 2:22 p.m. Dec. 27. The caller advised that the person pushed them when confronted at the door over the attempted theft.

 

Theft

• Third-degree theft was reported in the 600 block of Northwest Quincy Place at 1:51 p.m. Dec. 27. No other details were provided.

• A man caught shoplifting at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 4:48 p.m. Dec. 27 reportedly refused to cooperate with store security. A security worker followed the man throughout the store until he left, driving away in an SUV with no license plates.

• A man was caught trying to steal food at a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at about 9 p.m. Dec. 27. The food was recovered and the man left the area.

• A caller in the 100 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue reported the possible theft of a French horn valued at more than $2,000 at 11:16 p.m. Dec. 27. The caller said the instrument might have been misplaced.

• A man and woman were detained for shoplifting at 12:40 p.m. Dec. 28 at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The man and woman would not provide identification but were otherwise cooperative. They were cited.

• A woman stole alcohol from a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard, according to a report at 6:50 p.m. Dec. 28. Police logs indicate the woman was cited or arrested after leaving the business.

• Two males and a female stole alcohol from a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard, according to a report at 1 a.m. Dec. 29.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A man was reportedly yelling and running in and out of traffic at 9:56 a.m. Dec. 28.

• A homeless man reportedly said “I’ll go in there with a gun” while outside businesses in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 3:08 p.m. Dec. 28. The comment was reported by an employee of a business in the area.

 

Stolen vehicle

• A stolen vehicle was reported at 2:14 a.m. Dec. 28 in the 100 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue. GPS tracking showed the vehicle traveling north on Interstate 5. It was last tracked on westbound U.S. Highway 12 in Thurston County.

 

Children in the lobby

• Children ages 5 and 9 were reportedly left alone in a hotel lobby in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. Dec. 28.

 

Lewis County Jail

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 143 inmates, including 130 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 110 were male and 20 were female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
