Sirens: Three counterfeit $100 bills found; 'Major youth incident' reported at Green Hill; Client threatens to blow up building

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A chop saw was reported stolen out of the bed of a truck in the 1000 block of North Tower Avenue just after 8:45 a.m. on Feb. 12.

• A 32-year-old homeless man from Anacortes was arrested in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue at 1:55 p.m. on Feb. 12 for shoplifting from a hardware store.

• A bicycle was reported stolen from the 100 block of South Silver Street just after 5:50 p.m. on Feb. 12 while the bike’s owner was inside a local business.

• At approximately 8:55 a.m. on Feb. 13, a caller reported a wallet was stolen from the 600 block of North Tower Avenue in November.

• A 40-year-old Chehalis man was cited for third-degree theft at 10:05 a.m. on Feb. 13 after he allegedly stole a backpack out of an emergency waiting room at Providence Centralia Hospital in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road.

• Deli food was reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Feb. 13. The suspect fled from the business, and security was able to retrieve the stolen items. The suspect left his bicycle at the scene.

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at 8 p.m. on Feb. 13. Video shows two subjects driving a Honda with no plates break the vehicle’s window, steal items and flee the scene.

• An unidentified female reportedly stole a basket of groceries from a store in the 1100 block of Harrison avenue at 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 13.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Pear and South Cedar streets just before 9:05 a.m. on Feb. 12.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision involving a school bus was reported at the intersection of West Cherry and South Rock streets just after 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 12.

• A 66-year-old male was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the intersection of Mellen Street and southbound Interstate 5. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Gold and Fair streets just after 2 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a fence in the 1200 block of North Tower Avenue that was reported at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 13 is under investigation.

 

Criminal trespass

• At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Feb. 12, a business owner reported he “found evidence that someone had defecated near the back of the business” in the 800 block of West Main Street. Surveillance cameras reportedly got video of an unidentified homeless man “doing the deed” around 6 a.m. that morning. Officers were still looking for the suspect as of Feb. 13.

• A homeless man from Newman Lake was trespassed from a business in the 1200 block of Mellen Street just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 13 after he was asked to leave for having an open container of alcohol. The man “quickly drank the rest of his beverage before leaving.”

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Just after 11:35 a.m. on Feb. 12, a citizen reported “what looked like a body in a tree over the river” in the 1200 block of North Pearl Street. Officers responded and “found it was only an old tent or tarp.”

• Just after 1:20 p.m. on Feb. 12, “a male riding a skateboard was reported for squirting an unknown liquid on vehicles as he passed them” in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A 38-year-old homeless man from Chehalis was warned about disorderly conduct after a citizen in the 100 block of South Silver Street complained that he “ran up to their car yelling and screaming at them for no reason.”

• Two homeless people were reportedly “harassing customers at a local restaurant” in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue at 7:40 a.m. on Feb. 13. Officers were unable to locate the suspects.

 

Forgery

• A caller reported receiving a counterfeit $50 bill in the 1200 block of Alder Street just after 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 12. The case is under investigation.

 

Overdose

• A 24-year-old homeless man from Centralia had an apparent fentanyl overdose in the 100 block of South Pearl Street at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Feb. 14. Centralia officers and the Riverside Fire Authority responded. The male was transported to a local hospital.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Burglary

• At approximately 10 a.m. on Feb. 12, a caller reported someone broke a fence in the 700 block of Northwest Vine Street and stole wheels.



 

Harassment

• A client reportedly threatened a staff member at a facility in the 500 block of Southwest Washington Avenue at about 6:45 a.m. on Feb. 12 by saying “he was going to blow up the building and kill everyone in it.” The incident was reported at approximately noon that day.

 

Prison riot

• A “major youth incident” that occurred at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street on Dec. 7, 2023, was reported just before 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 12.

 

Criminal trespass

• A case of trespassing was reported at the intersection of Southeast Sixth Street and South Market Boulevard just before 5 p.m. on Feb. 12.

 

Dispute

• A “physical altercation” between two male subjects was reported in the 300 block of Southwest 15th Street at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 12. The reporting party told law enforcement he hit a man standing in his driveway “because he was on his property and (the reporting party) was defending himself.” The reporting party asked police to trespass the man from his property.

 

Malicious mischief

• A second-degree malicious mischief reported in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way at 8:25 a.m. on Feb. 13 is under investigation.

• A third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 13 is under investigation.

 

Drug violation

  A subject was arrested in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard just before 9:25 a.m. on Feb. 13 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of meth.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision that blocked both lanes at the intersection of North National Avenue and Northeast Median Street was reported just before 2:50 p.m. on Feb. 13.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:10 p.m. on Feb. 13.

 

Counterfeiting

• A male with three counterfeit $100 bills was reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at 4:35 p.m. on Feb. 13. The suspect is possibly connected to a Centralia counterfeiting case.

 

Juvenile problem

• Just after 5:20 p.m. on Feb. 13, a caller reported five older kids were punching the caller’s 6-year-old son in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A caller reported two people were “smoking something” behind a concession stand at Penny Playground in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 6:05 p.m. on Feb. 12.

• At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 13, a caller in the 700 block of Southeast Washington Drive requested assistance with a friend who was “having some sort of weird breakdown” and was hiding in his attic. The caller asked that the friend be “removed and trespassed.”

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 146 inmates, including 133 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 108 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
