Sirens: Woman arrested for DUI after vehicle is struck by train; Man with airsoft pistol draws police; Porch pirate strikes twice

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

DUI

• A woman was reportedly found passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked along the roadway in the 600 block of South Gold Street just after 11 a.m. on Dec. 20. She is under investigation for possibly being in physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated or under the influence of a controlled substance.

• A 52-year-old Fife man was arrested at the intersection of West Fourth and North Pearl streets just before midnight on Dec. 21 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run where a driver struck a vehicle in a parking lot and fled the area was reported in the 100 block of High Street just after 12:20 p.m. on Dec. 20. Witnesses sent a picture of the suspect vehicle to police, and officers used a Flock safety camera to identify the vehicle. The driver, a 54-year-old Centralia man, was cited for hit-and-run.

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of East Pine Street and North Tower Avenue just after 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 21.

 

Criminal trespass

• Officers responded to a motel in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Dec. 20 for a report of a man walking around “with what appeared to be a pistol.” The male was located and detained in a room because he had a warrant for his arrest and was prohibited from possessing firearms. During the investigation, officers learned “the pistol was an airsoft type, but the safety tip had been painted black,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The occupants of the motel room were trespassed from the motel property for life.

• A homeowner in the 900 block of Ham Hill Road reported the home’s former owner was at the residence and was “harassing them” at approximately 3:35 p.m. on Dec. 20. The former owner was trespassed from the property for life.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A 57-year-old Clinton man who “decided to lay in the middle of the road” in the 200 block of South Pearl Street, disrupted traffic and refused to get off the road when asked was cited for disorderly conduct.

 

Drug violation

• A 41-year-old Centralia man was referred to a local prosecutor’s office for possession of a controlled substance after officers found drug paraphernalia and “a small amount of fentanyl powder” inside his vehicle while following up on a suspicious circumstances report.

 

Theft

• A package was reported stolen from the 900 block of J Street just after 2:55 p.m. on Dec. 21.

• A package was reported stolen from the 900 block of J Street just after 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 21. The suspect allegedly walked up to the front porch, stole the package and fled in a U-Haul.

Vehicle accident

• A driver reportedly failed to negotiate a right turn at the intersection of Lum and Haviland roads, left the roadway and collided with a small fence in a parking lot just before 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 22. No injuries were reported.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• Just after 9:25 a.m. on Dec. 20, a vehicle prowl that occurred in the 1900 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior was reported.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 12:40 p.m. on Dec. 20 is under investigation.

• At 1:05 p.m. on Dec. 20, two packages were reported stolen from the 600 block of Northwest Quincy Place two days prior.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 3:55 p.m. on Dec. 20 is under investigation.

• Just after 12:20 p.m. on Dec. 21, $40 was reported stolen from the self-checkout of a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue.

• A vehicle theft was reported in the 400 block of Southwest 14th Street just after 4:05 p.m. on Dec. 21. The keys were reportedly inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.

 

Criminal trespass

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 500 block of Northwest Center Street just after 11:05 a.m. on Dec. 20.

• Two subjects were reportedly setting up camp on a property in the 10 block of Southwest Sixth Street at 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 20. The reporting party advised one of the subjects had “defecated behind his garage.” Officers were unable to locate the subjects.



• A male subject was trespassed from a property in the 2100 block of North National Avenue just after 3:05 p.m. on Dec. 20.

• A subject was reportedly trespassing on property in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Dec. 20.

• A male subject was reportedly trespassing on property in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 20.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1900 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Dec. 20.

• A hit-and-run reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue just after 11:20 a.m. on Dec. 20 is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street at 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 21.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at approximately 1:25 p.m. on Dec. 20.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 21.

• A vehicle reportedly struck the curb in the 2100 block of North National Avenue just after 12:35 p.m. on Dec. 21. The driver asked for help moving the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

 

Harassment

• “Blackmail and harassment via phone” were reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 20.

• A case of harassment reported in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue just before 11:35 p.m. on Dec. 21 is under investigation.

 

Welfare check

• At approximately 3 p.m. on Dec. 20, a caller requested a welfare check on a 3- to 4-year-old boy in the 400 block of Northeast Adams Avenue.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A male subject was reportedly “trying car doors” and “trying to help people put stuff in their cars” in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 20.

• A disorderly woman reportedly “threw all her clothes in the drive thru” of a business in the 2000 block of Jackson Highway at approximately 5 a.m. on Dec. 21 and reportedly “threw garbage” at the reporting party and the business before leaving the scene.

• Just after 2:10 p.m. on Dec. 21, a caller in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue asked law enforcement personnel to “come arrest him due to him not having any money in his bank account,” and said “the bank stole his money so he is unable to pay for his food.” The caller reportedly told dispatch “I can’t understand you cause you don’t talk real.”

• Just after 5:25 p.m. on Dec. 21, a caller reported “he can feel ‘bodies hitting (the) wall and floor’” of his apartment in the 1000 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue and said he “could hear screaming (but) can no longer hear anything at all.” Another tenant in the apartment advised there was no problem.

• Two subjects, one of whom was “carrying (a) large knife” were reportedly “looking for rocks” at the intersection of Northwest Prindle and Northwest Front streets just before 11:50 p.m. on Dec. 21.

 

DUI

• A woman was arrested in the 500 block of West Main Street at 11:10 p.m. on Dec. 20 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence after her car was hit by a train. She and the vehicle’s passenger reportedly got out of the vehicle at some point, leaving the vehicle on the train tracks, but the driver told dispatch “she doesn’t know if she was in the car or not when she got hit by the train.” Possible minor injuries were reported. BNSF reported the collision just after 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 20 and stopped all trains until the tracks were cleared. The tracks were reopened just before 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 21.

 

Malicious mischief

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 21 is under investigation.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Thursday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 151 inmates, including 138 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 115 were reported male and 23 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
