Slow start puts Centralia behind eight-ball in EvCo loss

A third quarter rally wasn’t enough to overcome just eight first half points and the Tigers dropped a 43-28 decision to Shelton on Friday night.

Despite a two-win improvement to this point in the season, Centralia (5-13, 0-8 EvCo) will miss the district tournament since Abrdeen swept the season series and will have the tiebreaker with two games left to go.

Centralia made just three field goals and went 1-for-5 from the free throw line in the first two stanzas combined. It pieced together 14 points in the third and cut the margin to trail by 14 with eight minutes to go.

Maddie Ahern led the Tigers’ scoring efforts with 11 points while Makenzie Erickson and Brooklyn Sprague combined for 15 points. Centralia will host Black Hills on Tuesday night in what will also be senior night.
