The public was asked to avoid the South Capitol neighborhood and the West Campus of the Capitol on Thursday morning after a home invasion robbery occurred and the suspect was on the loose.

The Olympia Police Department posted a news release regarding the incident on Thursday afternoon. It said the incident was first reported at 9 a.m. in the 1600 block of Sylvester Street SW. Lt. Paul Lower said a person was assaulted during the home invasion, and multiple firearms and electronics were stolen from the residence.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Lower said surveillance cameras from the area picked up two white male suspects fleeing from the residence. While fleeing, police believe one of the suspects discharged one of the stolen firearms. Lower said nobody was struck by a bullet.

One suspect was described in an alert from the state Department of Enterprise Services as a white man wearing dark jeans and a black sweatshirt. There is a white Ford Explorer with a dark cover over the license plate that may be associated with the suspect.

The suspect or suspects were still at large early Thursday afternoon. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call 911, or OPD's general number 360-753-8300. You can also contact Detective Jacob Theis at 360-709-2786 or jtheis@ci.olympia.wa.us.

The Washington State Patrol had a heightened presence on the Capitol Campus.
