State Softball Seedings Announced by WIAA Committees

Following district tournament action last week, just four area schools remain in the hunt for a state championship with berths to the state tournaments next week in the greater Yakima area.

The two-day tournament will start next Friday, with the 2As headed to Carlon Park in Selah while the 1Bs and 2Bs play at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima starting the same day.

The full brackets are attached in the photo gallery above.

2A State Tournament: No. 9 Centralia

Making the trip to state for the first time in over a decade, the Tigers grabbed the No. 9 seed and will play No. 8 Lynden in the first round at 11 a.m. on Friday at Carlon Park.

With a win, the Tigers would take on either No. 16 R.A. Long or No. 1 North Kitsap.

District 4 champion Ridgefield earned the No. 3 seed and is on the other side of the bracket with No. 10 Aberdeen, with no potential rematches for Centralia until the title game — unless R.A. Long can spring a big upset.

2B State Tournament: No. 1 Adna and No. 6 Pe Ell-Willapa Valley

Earning the No. 1 overall seed for the second consecutive season, despite a loss in the District 4 title game, the Pirates will receive a first round bye before taking on the winner of No. 9 Raymond-South Bend and No. 8 Colfax in the state quarterfinals in Yakima Friday at 2 p.m.

Though, for its performance in the district tournament, Ocosta was awarded the No. 4 seed and if things went chalk, would rematch with the Pirates in the state semifinals.

District 4 third-place finisher and defending 2B state champ Pe Ell-Willapa Valley earned the No. 6 seed and will play No. 11 Kittitas in the first round of the 12-team tournament, where with a win the Titans would take on No. 3 Okanogan in the quarterfinals.

1B State Tournament: No. 6 Mossyrock

Playing in just an 8-team tournament this season, the Mossyrock softball team earned the No. 6 seed as the District 4 champions. The Vikings will open play in Yakima at Noon Friday against No. 3 Sunnyside Christian.
