Swath of Schools Compete in Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite


Led by a pair of Tumwater runners, six high schools from The Chronicle’s coverage area competed at the Bill Kehoe South Sound Invite Saturday at St. Martin’s in Lacey. 

John Hoffer, competing in the boys Purple Elite race, finished third, running a 16:07.10 in a stacked field. On the girls side, Lucia Amantea finished 34th in the Teal Elite race, running a 20:43.10 to lead the Thunderbirds girls. 

Hundreds of runners ran in Lacey, with tiered races seeded by time’s run that season. In the Silver girls race, Black Hills’ Charlotte Niemann was its top finisher, finishing in 67th with a time of 23:52. 

The rest of the area’s best runners came in the Bronze Race, with Rochester’s Levi Jennings finishing third with a time of 17:34.20 to lead the way for the boys. Behind him, Tenino’s Carson Hart finished ninth with a time of 17:55.80, Rochester’s Gabe Stuard was 17th at 18:16.70, and Onalaska’s Ben Russon was 38th with a time of 19:00.3. 

On the girls side in the Bronze race, Oakville’s Mercedies Dupont finished 22nd with a time of 23:29.70, and Black Hills’ Emma Hughes was 50th at 25:15.6.
