The Morton-White Pass boys basketball team began their season on a high note on Wednesday, as the T-Wolves topped Winlock 59-52 in Morton.
Judah Kelly led the way for MWP, scoring 33 points to lead the Timberwolves’ offense.
“He’s so creative,” Morton-White Pass coach Kevin Dunlap said. “He’s tough to stop. You can’t replace that.”
Kohen Ingalsbe added 10 rebounds and nine points, while Sebastian Gonzalez added seven boards and two points.
In his first game since his freshman year, senior Noah Troy scored seven points, and Race McKenzie also saw time on the floor in his first high school game.
“They both played just fine for the first game out,” Dunlap said.
The T-Wolves took a 10-point lead in the second half and almost let it slip away, but they were able to hold on for the win.
“Some first game jitters for sure,” Dunlap said. “A little messy for the first game, but we’re 1-0, and it’s a win.”
Freddy Patching led the Cardinals with 19 points, including a trio of threes, while Arean Thapa added 10 and Mason Ruiz logged seven. Lincoln Ruiz and Carter Svenson both scored six points.
MWP will look to make it 2-0 when it travels to Toledo on Friday. The T-Wolves will follow with their first game in White Pass when they host Eatonville on Saturday.
Winlock (0-1) will head to Stevenson on Thursday before hosting Adna on Friday.
