Tenino Drops Both Matches in District Playoffs

Falling in back-to-back matchups in the opening round and consolation bracket of the 1A District 4 playoffs, Tenino volleyball’s season is now over.

The Beavers fell in straight sets to Castle Rock and Columbia (White Salmon) (25-24, 25-18, 25-11), but coach Wanda Blanksma was proud of her team for their effort and fight.

“First set we came out and competed in both matches and played well,” she said. “It’s good for a program like us to hang in there and compete with a team like Castle Rock.”

Blanksma praised the performances of Sophia Hussey and Brittany Maynard as standouts, with Hussey earning four kills against Castle Rock and Maynard getting eight blocks against Columbia.

Maynard is one of four seniors who helped the Beavers improve as the season went on, and qualify for the district playoffs as the final 1A Evergreen Conference seed. Her, Malika Slassi, Raelynn Wilson, and Abbigail Coty all earned praise from Blanksma.

“This group of seniors showed great leadership and laid a good foundation for the younger kids,” she said.
