When two great teams play each other, sometimes it comes down to just one mistake by either team. That was the case in Tuesday night’s matchup between Tenino and Montesano, where on the road, the Beavers fell in their first game, 1-0.
Right at the end of the first half, with no score, one of Tenino’s defenders slipped on the turf, and Bulldogs’ forward Jaiden Morrison took advantage, putting one through the back of the net for the game’s only score.
“We came out sluggish, they found a lot of spaces to get chances in the first half,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said. “[Montesano] wasn’t afraid to take shots, and we didn’t take shots when we had good opportunities.”
Both squads had three shots on target, but Schultz said that the Beavers needed to do a better job of being more aggressive in their next meeting with their rival.
Despite the first loss, Tenino will get Montesano again on the black turf, and it’ll use lessons learned Tuesday night to get better during the rest of the season.
“It’s good for us to see where we’re at,” Schultz said.
Schultz commended the play of his defenders, Andee Schaffran, Ashley Schow, and Kayla Feltus, for helping to limit Montesano’s attack and keeping shots away from keeper Trinity Tafoya, who had two saves.
The Beavers (6-1, 0-1 in league) will look to rebound in another league matchup with Elma on Thursday.
