The Tenino boys basketball team lost its first game at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima on Friday, losing to King’s 43-37.
It was a typical defensive battle, as neither team could find much of a sustained rhythm throughout.
Austin Gonia led the way with 20 points for the Beavers, and Jack Burkhardt scored nine, but no other Beaver tallied more than three.
“We didn’t shoot the ball very well,” Tenino coach Ryan Robertson said. “We did a really job, whatever defense we played, of competing like crazy … They just got some offensive rebounds in some critical situations.”
It was the first time all season that Robertson had all of his players at his disposal, as several players have missed time over the first chunk of the season with illness and injuries.
“You could see some glimpses of what we can be,” Robertson said. “We’ll take what we can from that, come back, and fight again.”
The Beavers (2-8) will be back on the floor in the SunDome on Saturday morning against Lakeside (9 Mile).
