The Tenino boys soccer team put together one of its best performances of the season on Tuesday, defeating Chief Leschi 10-0.
The Beavers scored five goals in both halves, including four goals in a six-minute span and two goals in under a minute in that same stretch in the first half.
“It was a good night at the office,” Tenino coach Trevor Fetbrandt said. “Something we’ve been focusing on is putting an emphasis on attacking shapes. Tonight was the closest we’ve had to a complete game in that sense … We’re getting into the higher level concepts that we’ve been talking about all year, and we’re now executing.”
Six different Beavers scored a goal, including Carlos Sanchiz, who finished with a hat trick and an assist.
“He had a great night,” Fetbrandt said. “Even if he hadn't scored any goals, it was his most complete performance. He’s such a vocal leader. He transitioned us the best (from defensive to offensive lines). He was the bridge that had the entire thing work.”
Miguel Espinoza, Bradley Whitaker, Ben Justice, and Brendan Mathis also scored, as did Noah Suess, who scored his first varsity goal in the 45th minute.
“He was incredibly impactful,” Fetbrandt said of Suess.
The other goal was a Chief Leschi own goal, and it opened the scoring in the 12th minute before the Tenino floodgates opened.
Up next for the Beavers (3-7, 3-6 1A Evergreen) is a trip to Montesano, where they’ll face the Bulldogs for the second time this season.
Tenino played Montesano tough in the first matchup, a 4-2 defeat, and Fetbrandt is looking forward to the challenge of heading towards the coast.
“We felt like we had all the chances we needed to win that (first) game,” Fetbrandt said. “It’s always a competitive group. Our boys are fired up for the challenge. We’d like to think we’ve grown quite a bit since that first matchup.”
