Tenino Nabs Back-to-Back Comeback Wins Over Goldendale, Zillah

Posted

Trailing heading into the sixth inning against both Goldendale and Zillah east of the Cascades, the Tenino baseball team’s bats came alive in both contests, capturing an 11-8 win over the Timberwolves before dispatching the Leopards, 20-7.

In the first game against Goldendale, the Beavers trailed 8-7 after building up a lead but giving up a five-run fourth inning. But thanks to some timely hits, including Kellan Knox’s 2-RBI single in the sixth inning, the Beavers took the lead and slammed the door on the Timberwolf offense for an 11-8 victory.

Cody Strawn had six strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.

In the second game against Zillah, the Beavers trailed by three runs heading into the sixth, and got two back in the sixth inning to pull within one heading into the final frame.

Thanks to some spotty pitching by the Leopard staff, and some good hits, the Austin Gonia drew a walk with the bases loaded to to tie the game, and Brody Noonan blasted a two-run single to give the Beavers the lead for good. Tenino went on to score 14 runs in the seventh inning to preserve a 20-7 win.

Noonan starred at the plate, going 5 for 6 with five runs batted in, and Knox had a home run blast in an earlier inning.

The Beavers will look to keep it rolling after a successful trip to Goldendale when they take on Castle Rock on the road Tuesday.
