Tenino snaps losing skid with victory in Elma

The Tenino boys basketball team’s five-game losing streak is officially in the rear view as of Wednesday night, when the Beavers took down Elma 56-49 on the road.

“For the first time, we got some rhythm on offense,” Tenino coach Ryan Robertson said. “We haven’t been able to do that, and it felt really good. “We called stuff in, ran it, and were able to knock it down.”

The Beavers trailed 13-6 after one, but outscored the Eagles 36-18 over the next two quarters to open up a double-digit lead.

Austin Gonia led the Beavers with 23 points, and Will Feltus scored 20.

“Austin took advantage of his opportunities,” Robertson said. “And Feltus controlled the game with the ball in his hands.”

Michael Vassar added five points, while Jaxson Gore scored three. Jack Burkhardt scored just two, but Robertson said his presence was felt throughout.

“He just controlled the middle, made it tough for them to score inside, and was an intimidating factor,” Robertson said. “It was really kind of a program win for us. And after all we’ve been through, it felt really good.”

The Beavers (3-11, 1-1 1A Evergreen) will get another league game on Friday, when they host Hoquiam.
