Tenino snaps skid with win in Ilwaco

The Tenino boys soccer team ended its four-game losing streak on Thursday, defeating Ilwaco 4-0 for its first win since March 18.

The Beavers dominated throughout, outshooting the Fishermen 21-1 and earning eight corner kicks while conceding none.

“Anytime you can travel two and a half hours and win, that’s exciting,” Tenino coach Trevor Fetbrandt said.”

Fetbrandt said that they had to be more direct with their offensive approach, as the field was muddy and played slow. That led to some excellent chances throughout, though.

“We accepted that we might have to get away from some of our extra passes,” Fetbrandt said. “We were super dangerous all night.”

Eighth-grader Landen Vasquez got Tenino on the board with an unassisted goal in the 30th minute. Radly Whitaker doubled the advantage just minutes later, and Tenino took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Miguel Espinoza scored twice in the second half, in the 69th and 76th minute, to make it 4-0. Espinoza assisted Whitaker’s goal in the first half, while his two goals were assisted by Vasquez and David Ruedy, who was in net for the first 70 minutes of the game.

Fetbrandt gave a shoutout to Vasquez and Whitaker, saying that Vasquez was “relentless all night” and that Whitaker was a “swiss-army knife.”

Tenino (2-5, 2-4 1A Evergreen) will be back home on the black turf on Tuesday to host Hoquiam.
