Tenino starts slow, falls to La Center

The Tenino girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start on Saturday, as the Beavers lost 50-37 to La Center for its fourth straight loss.

The Beavers trailed by 10 after one frame and 12 entering the break, and though they played better in the second half, they couldn’t make a dent into the deficit.

“We came out in the first quarter and it was just kind of tough,” Tenino coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “We usually seem to play better in the second half.”

Gofinch commenced Charley Jones, who hit a pair of threes in the fourth, and Keira Laughlin, who Gofinch said did more than the box score showed.

“She can just get in and defend the tallest player,” Gofinch said. “She plays hard, and she had a great second half.”

Holly Throen finished with a team-high 12 points, while Chloe Grayless and Jones finished with nine each. Laughlin finished with four points.

Tenino (2-4) will head to Kalama on Monday.
