The Tenino boys basketball team snapped its six-game losing streak on Tuesday, earning its first win of the season with a 61-50 overtime win over Ocosta.
The Beavers trailed by 10 at halftime, but rallied back in the second half to tie the game at 46 to force OT.
In the overtime period, the Tenino offense was extraordinary. The Beavers scored 15 points in just four minutes to pull away and seal the win.
“We just kind of put it to them,” Tenino coach Ryan Robertson said. “Just proud of them for handing in there, defending like crazy, and finding a way to get a win.”
Austin Gonia led the Beavers with 23 points, which was good enough to push him over 1,000 career points.
“It couldn’t happen to a better human being,” Robertson said. “He’s just an amazing kid, and he’s the hardest worker … I’m really proud of him, and I’m really happy for him.”
Will Feltus added 19 points, and Ashton Moore scored eight points and blocked four shots.
Tenino (1-6) will look to win its second win in a row on Thursday at home against Ilwaco.
“We’re still learning and growing,” Robertson said. “And we’re looking to keep getting better.”
