Tenino’s Season Comes to an End in Opening Round of State

Posted

Competing in the 1A state tournament for the first time since 2016, the No. 8 Tenino baseball team couldn’t get much going at the plate in a 4-2 loss to No. 9 Bellevue Christian Saturday morning at Parker Field, the home of Yakima Valley College.

The Beavers got a strong start on the bump from Cody Strawn, who pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. The junior had three runs scored against him, but with just one earned through nearly six innings of work. Easton Snider finished the game and allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout in an inning and a third.

At the dish, Tenino just couldn’t string enough base hits together, totaling just four over seven innings. Strawn had the only extra-bases hit, hitting a double, and Mikey Vasser knocked in the only RBI on a single. Kellan Knox and Will Feltus collected the other hits.

Despite facing a 4-1 deficit heading into the seventh, the Beavers looked to make one last rally, down to their final three outs.

Snider reached on an error with one out, and after a sacrifice bunt, advanced to second. A single from Vasser knocked him in, and another error saw two runners reach scoring position with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game, and the season, for Tenino.

The Beavers finish the season at 19-6, and are still looking for their first state win since 2013, when they finished third in the 1A ranks.

Four Beavers played their final games in red and black: Kaden Sayamnet, Easton Snider, Brody Noonan, and Triston Whitaker.
