Three Pirate Pitchers Combine to No-Hit Rockets

Tristan Percival, Asher Guerrero and Ryan Wickert combined to toss a no-hitter in Adna's 10-0 victory in five innings over Castle Rock at home Wednesday.

Percival was superb in his three innings on the mound, punching out nine of the 10 batters he faced, while walking the other. Asher Guerrero pitched a hitless fourth with three Ks and Wickert finished the Rockets off with a hitless fifth inning to seal the victory.

“Pitching set the tone for us today,” Adna manager Jake LeDuc said. “Tristan was sharp.”

It was a welcome rebound for the Pirates who LeDuc said looked nervous during their jamboree against R.A. Long and Toledo on Saturday. On Wednesday against Castle Rock, the nerves evaporated.

Despite collecting just five hits offensively on the day, the Pirates were patient and assertive at the plate, drawing seven walks and scoring eight runs in the fifth inning with just three hits.

“We talked a lot about being aggressive at the plate,” LeDuc said. “We were much better at trying to hit the fastball, and we hit the ball hard for outs. We ran the bases hard.”

Adna (1-0) will look to keep its momentum churning when it hosts Winlock in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Monday.
