Three Trojans Join Winlock Girls Basketball

Three Pe Ell girls basketball players are joining the Winlock team as the Trojans didn’t have enough players to field a full team and risked having their season canceled, Winlock athletic director Nick Bamer confirmed Tuesday.

Joining the Cardinals are junior Charlie Carper, junior Kali Cox and senior Kayla Miller. The team will compete as the Winlock Cardinals, not a combined team name.

“The team is technically still Winlock,” Bamer said. “Nothing’s changing.”

Pe Ell reached out to several schools in the area before finally landing with Winlock, a decision that was voted on by coaches in the Central 2B League.

It’s a huge addition for a Winlock team that features two-time Chronicle All-Area selection Addison Hall, a senior who led the C2BL in scoring last season while averaging 18.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

The Cardinals also bring back fellow senior Madison Vigre, a third-team all league pick last season.

Now, they’ll join forces with Carper, a first-team all-league pick in the 1B Columbia Valley League selection last season, who is known for her speed, defense and hustle.

“They’re practicing (with us) and it significantly changes the outlook of the team,” Bamer said.
