After a few postponements to start the season, the Tumwater boys basketball team finally hit the floor on Thursday, and they hit the ground running.
The T-Birds (1-0, 1-0 2A EvCo) defense gave the Rochester offense (0-6, 0-2 2A EvCo) fits all night, holding them to just 21 points in a 72-21 win over the Warriors.
Tumwater led 12-2 after the first quarter and really picked it up offensively in the second, scoring 24 points while capitalizing on dozens of Rochester mistakes.
“You can’t win games with 24 turnovers in the first half,” Rochester coach Gino McDuffy said.
The T-Birds offensive flow carried over into the third quarter, where they scored 22 points, and Landon Anchors hit a trio of three in the fourth as part of a 14-point frame. Sahara Anthony III also hit three 3-pointers on the night, part of his 13-point outing.
Bryce Morgan had a game-high 18 points, while Clay Morgan added 14.
Carson Rotter and Lane Morgan scored six each for the Warriors, and Brayden O’Connor scored five.
Tumwater will head south to take on Mountain View on Saturday, while Rochester will host Eatonville on Monday.
