The Tumwater softball team took care crosstown foes Black Hills Wednesday 6-0, as Ella Ferguson tosses yet another gem to secure a Thunderbird trip to districts.
Tumwater set the tone early in the bottom of the first on a Kylie Waltermeyer RBI single, followed by a Megan Paull line drive that knocked in two runs to put the T-Birds up by three. Tumwater put up another run in the third on a Marissa La Praim RBI, and another two insurance runs crossed the plate in the fifth courtesy of a wild pitch and a fielder's choice.
The T-Birds ended the day with eight hits, although thanks to Ella Ferguson, they weren't all that necessary. Offense for the Wolves was almost non-existent as Ferguson only allowed two knocks through seven innings while striking out 13 Black Hills batters to complete the shutout.
Tumwater’s win pushes the T-Birds to 8-4. In a league standings battle closer than there's ever been in 2A EvCo softball, it’s enough to secure them the No. 2 seed in the District 4 tournament. They’ll take on the No. 3 seed out of the 2A GSHL at Rec Park on May 18.
Black Hills ends its season with an 8-12 record.
