Bella Burney smacked nine kills and blocked six shots and Tumwater easily took care of Shelton on the road for a sweep (25-14, 25-14, 25-16) in 2A Evergreen Conference play Thursday.

Outside hitter Brooklynn Hayes added three aces, seven kills and 20 digs, while Kira Turcotte contributed four aces, 20 digs and was 100% serving. Natalie Sumrok switched to middle for the match and registered five kills.

“Sumrok really stepped up,” Tumwater coach Jordan Stray said. “We had great leadership. It was fun. Shelton’s gym is really intense. We worked really hard together as a team.”

Tumwater (5-1, 3-0 league) hosts Aberdeen on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds are holding a fundraiser that night called Dig for the Cure, to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
