Thurston County has received a clean “accountability audit” from the Washington State Auditor’s Office.

The audit, which examined Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023, found that the county complied with applicable state laws, regulations and internal policies, and ensured that public resources were safeguarded.

“This clean audit report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our county employees,” Tye Menser, chair of the Board of County Commissioners, said in a statement. “We are committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars and ensuring efficient and effective government operations.”

According to the board, the audit examined procurement, budget compliance, accounts receivable, personal and business use of county credit cards, cash receipts, payroll, jail operations, compliance with state grants, use of restricted funds and open public meetings, among other areas.

The county was found to be compliant with positive results in all areas.

“Credit for our clean audits goes to our talented staff, who uphold our sound policies and foster a county-wide culture of accountability,” Mary Hall, Thurston County auditor, said in a statement. “We value our partnership with the State Auditor’s Office in reviewing and ensuring the integrity of our financial systems and controls.”
