Thurston County Reports 631 New COVID-19 Cases

New cases of COVID-19 in Thurston County increased in the health department’s latest report as 631 cases were tallied during the period of May 9 through May 15.

The prior week there were 571 COVID-19 cases reported between May 2 and May 8.

Out of the 47,888 total county cases reported by May 16, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 46,585, according to the county health department.

As of May 16, the county health department reported a total of 2,306 COVID-related hospitalizations in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.

Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.



In neighboring Pierce County, deaths landed at .1 per 100,000 population, and new cases were at 304.8 per 100,000 population as of May 17, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The total number of cases in the county reached 199,497 as of May 16 with 1,415 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of May 17, there were 1,538,228 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 61,418 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 12,812 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 13.6 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of May 17, there were 82,376,975 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were confirmed 997,215 deaths and 82.5% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). New cases over the last 30 days have been on a slow upwards trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days are on a steady downward trend, CDC graphs indicated.
