Thurston County Reports 779 New COVID-19 Cases

Thurston County reported an increase in COVID-19 cases as the health department tallied 779 new cases and two deaths during the period of June 27 through July 2.

The deaths included a woman in her 20s and a woman in her 90s.

The previous week there were 616 cases reported between June 20 to June 26. 

Out of the 52,705 total county cases reported by July 5, patients who have recovered or are recovering increased to 51,695, according to the county health department.

As of July 5, the county health department reported a total of 2,462 COVID-related hospitalizations and 399 deaths in Thurston County since the start of the pandemic.

Health care workers have vaccinated 66% of the population countywide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to DOH.



In neighboring Pierce County, deaths per 100,000 population couldn’t be calculated because less than 10 people died, and new cases were down at 228.9 per 100,000 population as of July 5, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

The total number of cases in the county reached 213,878 as of July 5, with 1,433 deaths, according to DOH.

In Washington state, as of June 21, there were 1,666,301 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, a total of 65,486 people have been hospitalized because of the illness, and 13,275 people have died, according to DOH.

Over 14 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state.

Nationwide, as of July 5, there were 85,921,461 total cases since the start of the pandemic. There were 1,013,261 confirmed deaths and 83.2% of Americans 5 years old and up have at least one of the vaccinations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

New cases over the last 30 days have been on a slow downwards trajectory, while new deaths over the last 30 days have also decreased, CDC graphs indicated.
