Tigers Battle Back in Kittitas Doubleheader

Posted

After a dominant offensive display against the host Kittitas across the mountains in a 19-8 win, the Napavine baseball team doubled down and swept its doubleheader, beating Colfax, 8-4, after an early deficit Saturday afternoon to come back across the Cascades victorious.

In the first game against the Coyotes, who hosted the event in Kittitas, the Tigers dropped seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 19-8 victory. Austin Chapman went a perfect 4 for 4 with five runs batted in and crushed a homer to get the day started in style. Ashton Demarest started the game on the mound and went 4.1 innings, allowing five earned runs with four strikeouts.

Demarest also went 1 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs.

In the second game against Colfax, the Tigers were the ones who fell behind in an early hole. After squandering an early 2-0 advantage, the Napavine dropped three runs in both the fifth and the sixth inning to create some distance and pick up its second win of the day.

This time, Jack Nelson went yard, going 2 for 3 with a homer, four RBIs, and a walk. Gavin Parker also starred at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, a walk and a run.

“I liked the way we approached the day,” Tigers coach Brian Demarest said. “Our kids had to fight through some adversity and we were able to. Everyone contributed today,a couple of good team wins after a long drive.”

The Tigers will return to league play on Thursday against Toledo at home.
