Tigers Can’t Catch Highclimbers After Early Deficit

Trailing 8-2 in the early going, the Centralia softball team couldn’t quite dig itself out of a hole in a 11-7 2A Evergreen Conference matchup Wednesday afternoon on the road to Shelton.

Originally scheduled to be played at Fort Borst Park, but moved due to field conditions up North, the Tigers outscored the Highclimbers 5-3 in the final four innings, but couldn’t quite overcome a poor start.

Shelton ace Kayla Zembas starred for the Climbers, going 2 for 3 at the plate with two home run blasts, and also pitching four innings and allowing just three earned runs.

For the Tigers, Makayla Chavez was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Jimena Luis finished 2 for 3 and led the Tigers with three RBIs. In relief, Payton Baumel pitched seven innings and struck out seven, with only three earned runs in a losing effort.

The Tigers will look to bounce back against W.F. West on Friday.
