Tigers Can’t Keep Up with Bobcats in League Defeat

The Centralia softball team couldn’t replicate its performance at the plate in its last outing, falling to Aberdeen, 13-3, in five innings Wednesday at home.

The Tigers had just five hits at the plate, with two of them home runs for three total runs, but pitcher Payton Baumel struggled, with Aberdeen racking up 10 hits and eight earned runs against the freshman.

“They came out ready to hit,” Tigers coach David Orr said. “They put a lot of balls in play and it just wasn’t Payton’s night. There are days like this, she’ll bounce back.”

On the other side, freshman Bobcat ace Lilly Camp fanned 10 batters over five innings.

Makayla Chavez mashed her second home run of the season in the second inning, and Lauren Wasson, fresh off rehabbing an injury that sidelined her for the entire summer, crushed a two-run shot in the fourth in just her second at-bat of the season.

“Every girl on the team is capable of doing it,” Orr said. “We just haven’t shown it for a complete game yet.”

The Tigers will look to string together some more hits against Rochester on Friday on the road.
