Tigers’ Defense Stalls Riverhawks in Regular-Season Finale

Napavine collected 14 steals and forced Toledo into 23 turnovers as the Tigers came out on top in a 42-30 road victory in Central 2B League play Wednesday.

The Tigers held the Riverhawks to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters, and jumped out to a 23-8 lead at the half. But Toledo punched back, ripping off a 13-3 run in the third quarter to its deficit to 26-21 entering the final frame.

Napavine (9-8, 6-4 C2BL) held strong, outscoring the Riverhawks 16-9 in the fourth quarter to preserve a 12-point victory.

Avery Schutz led the way for the Tigers with a team-high 12 points and four steals to go with five rebounds. Grace Hall added nine points and four steals and Natalya Marcial chipped in eight points and four boards.

The Tigers shot 36% from the field (16 of 44), while holding the Riverhawks to 32% shooting (9 of 28).

The Riverhawks (10-10, 4-6 C2BL) were led by Greenlee Clark’s game-high 11 points to go with five rebounds. Abbie Marcil added six points and four rebounds.

It was the regular-season finale for both teams as they each await district playoff seeding on Friday.
