The Napavine girls soccer team held the defending state champions in check for over half an hour, but couldn’t keep the defensive effort up, falling 7-0 to Kalama in the district semifinals on Thursday.
The Chinooks’ first goal came on a corner kick, where the last touch came off a Napavine defender, in the 36th minute. Then they doubled their lead just before halftime.
From there, things snowballed. Kalama made it 3-0 in the 49th minute, before burying three goals in a six-minute span to turn it into a blowout. The Chinooks got their final goal in stoppage time, putting a bow on things.
Napavine now will go into do-or-die territory, heading to Tenino for the district third-place game against Onalaska on Saturday. A win will put the Tigers into the state tournament, while a loss will end their season.
