The Napavine Tigers and Rainier Mountaineers both won their two games at Raymond in the 2B District 4 Tournament on Saturday to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Napavine swept Ilwaco 25-8, 25-12, 25-9 before taking down Raymond, the top seed from the Pacific division, 15-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-11.
Against the Fishermen, Keria O’Neill led the team with 17 kills, while Dakota Hamilton tallied 15 assists and six kills. Lilly Grabianowski filled in as the team’s libero due to an illness, and tallied six aces while going 17 for 18 from the service line.
In the second game, the Tigers started slow, but were able to get the offense rolling halfway through the second set and gain some momentum.
“It was a battle for the next two sets, but they persevered,” Napavine coach Monica Daliey said. “It was a battle all the way to the end.”
O’Neill was incredible at the net again, tallying 21 kills and three blocks. Emily Kang returned for the second game and delivered with eight digs and three aces while going 22 for 23 on serves. Grace Gall added 14 digs and six kills.
Briza Contreras was all over the floor, tallying 19 assists, 12 kills and six digs.
After dropping the first set to Onalaska, the Mountaineers rebounded by taking the next three sets from the Loggers before sweeping Forks.
No stats were reported.
Both teams are in the district semifinals, as Rainier will take on Adna and Napavine will play Toutle Lake on Wednesday at Adna.
The winners will receive state bids and play for the district championship, while the losers will continue to battle for the district’s remaining bids at the state tournament in the lower bracket on Saturday.
