Centralia got the win it needed, a 49-17 hammering of Shelton on the road Friday to clinch the 2A Evergreen Conference’s No. 4 seed and its first playoff berth in five years.

The Tigers (7-9, 5-8 EvCo) will next head to a district-playoff pigtail game at and against R.A. Long on Wednesday in a loser-out game.

On Friday, the Tigers were led by a trio of double-digit scorers as Makayla Chavez scored a game-high 17 points. Maddie Corwin and Emily Wilkerson each notched a double-double. Corwin finished with 12 points and a game-high 15 boards, while Wilkerson scored 11 points and hauled in 10 rebounds.

“It went really good,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “Our defense and press was good, which is important to what we want to do.

It was the Tigers’ first playoff berth since 2017, when they were the EvCo’s No. 3 seed.

“It’s been a while,” Ashmore said. “It’s nice to get at least one playoff game and go from there.”
