NAPAVINE — Thanks to a frenetic defense, which forced 26 turnovers that led to 28 points, the Napavine girls basketball team crushed Mabton, 57-33 in a non-league home game on Tuesday.

The Tigers (4-2, 1-0 C2BL) got home late after a long trip out to Ilwaco last night, and playing an early afternoon game against an east-side team proved to be a small challenge for the hometown team.

“I thought defensively, we were really good,” coach Shane Schutz said.

Eighth-grader Hayden Kaut led the charge for the Tigers on offense, scoring a game-high 17 points with three treys from deep. Senior Natalya Marcial had 15 points, and Keira O’Neill led Napavine on the boards with 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Including Kaut’s 17, the Tigers had 25 points off the bench in a team effort, with eight of the nine players who received minutes getting into the scoring column.

The Tigers will play next at Chelan after a short holiday break on Dec. 28.
