TOLEDO — Though they let Toledo trim the lead to just one at one point, the Centralia softball team put together an 11-run inning in the sixth to run-rule the hometown Riverhawks Monday afternoon, 16-4.
The Tigers got yet another strong performance in the box from Hollynn Wakefield, who went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Makayla Chavez added a 3 for 5 line with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Jimena Luis was 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
At leadoff, Gracie Schofield scored three runs, continuing her hot start to the year.
“She’s been killing it,” Centralia coach David Orr said. “She’s stepped into third base and she owns that spot. At leadoff she’s almost automatic, that's a good feeling to have. She's such a quiet kid, but she makes some noise on the stat sheet.”
In the circle, Peyton Smith got the start and went four innings, allowing seven hits with four earned runs, a walk, and two strikeouts. Wakefield came in the game in relief and pitched two scoreless innings with six strikeouts and a walk.
The Riverhawks were led by Zaya Norberg’s bases-clearing triple, scoring two runs in the fourth inning for the home team. Mialeigh Jurica also went 2 for 3 with a run scored on a pair of doubles.
Centralia takes on rival W.F. West back at Borst Park Tuesday while Toledo hopes to bounce back in league play against Onalaska on Thursday.
