Tigers Split Doubleheader On Senior Night

The Napavine softball team split its doubleheader with Cle Elum-Roslyn Wednesday at home, winning Game 1 12-8 and dropping Game 2 9-6.

In Game 1, the Tigers managed to build a five-run lead going into the fifth inning, but that was swiftly wiped away after back-to-back Warrior three-run innings. Napavine countered with a huge five-run inning that featured a bases-clearing triple from Grace Pancake.

“It was a big hit, she put it in the gap and that really changed the game for us”, said coach Josh Fay.

Hannah Fay finished the job for the Tigers, shutting out the Warriors in the seventh to secure the victory. Fay tossed a complete game, striking out six while allowing four hits.

The last home game of the season meant senior night for the Tigers, Coach Fay expressed his appreciation for Dani Tupuola and Cailyn Milton.

“We're real appreciative of what they've done for our team, they've really got our program moving in the right direction.”

Tupuola ended her home career on a high note, going yard in the third inning to trot the bases one last time.

The Tigers were not so fortunate in Game 2, not being able to fight back from a late game Cle-Elum attack at the plate. Napavine held the Warriors scoreless through four, but the bats came alive late as they put up a five run fifth inning, followed by a pair of two run innings to seal the deal and put the Tigers away.

“Milton threw great, we just didn't give her a lot of help”, Josh Fay said.

Milton got the start for Game 2. In her last home game the senior threw a complete game, striking out nine and giving up nine  runs, only four of which were earned. A few crucial errors in the field and the Warrior bats bringing it late again was too much for the Tigers to overcome.

Napavine looks to pick up one last regular season win as they head to Winlock on Thursday.
