Tigers Split Season-Ending Doubleheader

With its league season in the books, the Centralia baseball team wrapped up its spring with a late-scheduled doubleheader against Interlake, splitting the day at Wheeler Field with a 5-4 win and a 10-5 loss.

The Tigers did the bulk of their damage in Game 1 late, plating two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead, then holding on through an Interlake rally in the seventh.

John Leedy earned the win on the mound for Centralia, throwing three shutout innings in relief, after Tucker Weaver allowed two in four frames to start.

In Game 2, first-year head coach Jake LeDuc rolled out just about his entire roster, with 17 Tigers seeing the field in the season’s final game. The Tigers led that one 4-2 going into the seventh, before the Saints took advantage of six free passes and two errors to strike for eight runs.

Brady Sprague had a pair of two-hit games to lead the offense, finishing the evening 4 for 8 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBIs. Marcus Miller, who allowed just one run in four innings on the hill in Game 2, also came away with two hits.

Centralia ends its season with a 4-15 overall record. The Tigers are set to graduate four seniors: Moshie Eport, Seth Aitken, Gabe Seymour, and Zane Carson.

“I thank them a lot,” LeDuc said. “I haven’t been with them for more than this year, but I feel like they left the program a better place, and definitely made themselves better.”
