Tigers Stifle Highclimbers to Stay Perfect

In another strong team effort, the Centralia girls basketball team ran over Shelton, 56-26, to move to 4-0 and a perfect 2-0 in league.

The Tigers held the Highclimbers to single digit scoring in every quarter, and scored in double digits in every quarter to put the game away early. Senior post Maddie Corwin scored 21 points for the Tigers and hauled in 12 rebounds, earning the double-double.

Corwin also came away with five steals, capitalizing off Centralia’s press and the Tiger guards putting strong ball pressure on the Highclimber offense.

“Teammates found her in the zone and she worked really hard on the boards tonight,” Tigers coach Doug Ashmore said. “Our backside was working really well, but credit to our guards for starting it all.”

Fellow post Emily Wilkerson scored eight points, grabbed 13 boards, and also took away five steals in the win. Senior Jadyn Hawley scored eight points to go along with seven steals, and Makayla Chavez scored in double figures with 10 points.

“We got back to attacking the basket and making it to the free throw line, which was good,” Ashmore said.

The Tiger defense held Shelton to just eight made shots, and outrebounded the Highclimbers 46-27 in a dominant effort.

Centralia will head to Black Hills to take on the Wolves in another league matchup on Friday.
