Tigers Take Down Wildcats In Regular Season Finale

Posted

Senior Makensee Taliaferro recorded a hat trick, and Napavine pulled out a win in its last regular season contest at home, 4-1, over Ocosta Wednesday night.

Taliaferro scored in the 25th, 37th, and 51st minutes to take the lead after a 1-1 tie and make sure the Tigers stayed in the lead throughout in a dominant effort.

Fellow senior Natalya Marcial helped score the Tigers first goal in the eighth minute, when a nice corner kick from the forward was deflected off a Wildcat player for an own goal.

The Wildcats tied it up in the 14th, but after that, it was the Taliaferro show.

“We played more like ourselves,” Tigers assistant coach Chris Tarabochia said. “We controlled the ball more than Saturday and created more opportunities.”

The win means that the Tigers earned a share of second place in league, with the Wildcats. Unfortunately for Napavine, after the game was done, the teams did a shootout to see who would earn the tiebreaker for the second seed in case they were tied after Ocosta and Forks play tomorrow, and the Wildcats prevailed.

If Ocosta beats Forks on Thursday, the Wildcats will earn the second seed and host Toledo. If the Spartans manage to beat the Wildcats, the Tigers would host the Riverhawks. A Wildcat win tomorrow would mean the Tigers would be matched up with Onalaska next Monday.
