Tigers Take First Loss of Season in Vancouver

Centralia fell behind early and couldn’t adjust quickly enough as the Tigers suffered their first loss of the season in a 49-41 road defeat to Seton Catholic in non-league play on Monday.

Seton Catholic’s Maddie Willis busted off a game-high 26 points, helping the Cougars leap out to a 16-11 lead and keep the Tigers at bay.

“We started off slow and they packed it in on us, and we weren’t getting those inside looks early on,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “We weren’t hitting shots so we couldn’t get into our press.”

The Tigers were led by point guard Makayla Chavez’ nine points, while posts Maddie Corwin and Emily Wilkerson each added nine points. Corwin hauled in a team-high 16 rebounds and Liliana Babka hauled in eight boards and scored five points.

The Tigers shot 12 of 63 from the field and 14 of 26 from the charity stripe.

Centralia (5-1, 3-0 EvCo) next heads to Prairie High School for a tournament on Monday.
