Staying true to its identity throughout the season, the 2B No. 3 Napavine girls basketball team held Winlock to one-made field goal in a 67-3 win Wednesday night to close the regular season.

The win is the Tigers’ 13th in league play, and clinches an unbeaten league title run. Napavine earned a first-round bye in the district tournament last week, and will play next Tuesday in the quarterfinals.

“It was one of their goals when we started the season,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “We will wake up tomorrow and will have to go back to work on preparing to get better each day and for each game.”

Wednesday night, the Tigers were stifling on defense once again, holding Winlock to 1-of-20 shooting from the floor and forcing 32 turnovers, even after backing off their press and playing most of their bench.

Every Tiger who suited up Wednesday night scored, led by Dani Tupuola’s 11 points and Hayden Kaut’s 10.

Tupuola and fellow senior Morgan Hamilton celebrated their senior nights prior to the game, with Hamilton adding four points.

“Tonight we were really good defensively,” Schutz said. “We had great balanced scoring and we were unselfish with the basketball tonight.”

Winlock’s season comes to a close, coming up just a couple of league games short of the district tournament at 7-13 overall and 2-11 in league play.
