Tigers Trounce Mules in Cathlamet

Tied up at 2-2 through three innings, the Napavine baseball team went on a 7-0 run to end the game, beating Wahkiakum in Cathlamet Wednesday afternoon, 10-3.

The Tigers scored four runs to go up 6-2 in the fourth inning before adding some insurance in each of the last three innings.

Austin Chapman had three big RBIs on a 1 for 4 day, and Grady Wilson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Conner Holmes at leadoff went 2 for 3 with three runs scored, and RBI, and two walks drawn in a strong day at the plate.

On the mound, Ashton Demarest got the start and tossed the first four innings with all three runs earned on two hits and five walks. He also struck out four. Jack Nelson came out of the pen to pitch two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and punching out three.

“Our kids had a good approach at the plate,” Tigers coach Brian Demarest said. “We squared some balls up and played good situational baseball. Our pitching kept us competitive, Jack Nelson did a really nice job in relief. Defensively it was nice to see our kids execute a bit.”

The Tigers will take on the Mules again Thursday, this time in Tiger Town at 4 p.m.
