Tigers Upended by Highclimbers

Done in on the road in Mason County for the second time this season, the Centralia softball team couldn’t muster enough offense in a 4-1 loss to Shelton Monday afternoon in 2A Evergreen Conference play.

Though the Tigers equaled the Highclimbers in hits, with seven between the two teams, Centralia stranded too many runners, not scoring until the seventh inning.

Payton Baumel was the only Tiger with multiple hits, going 2 for 3. Gracie Schofield went 1 for 3 with a run scored in the seventh, with Judy Vallejo knocking her in on a sac fly. Jimena Luis added a double at the plate.

In the circle, Peyton Smith started and pitched the first three innings, giving up three hits with two earned runs and a strikeout. Mckenna Smith stepped in to pitch a pair of innings, with no runs on one hit and two strikeouts, and Hollynn Wakefield pitched the final inning, allowing two runs, with one earned, on three hits, one walk and a strikeout.

Centralia will take on rival W.F. West on Wednesday at Recreation Park in Chehalis at 6 p.m. for its next contest.
