Tigers win back-and-forth affair against Vikings

The Napavine and Mossyrock softball teams took turns putting up crooked numbers on Thursday, but the Tigers came out on top with a 15-10 victory.

The runs came early and often for both teams, as it was 6-6 through three and 8-8 through five. The two teams combined for five more runs in the sixth, and Napavine led 11-10 going into the final frame.

The Tigers built on that lead with a four-run seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from Dakota Lyons and another RBI single from Clara Fay, and Lyons shut the door in the bottom half to seal the victory.

Lyons pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits and 10 runs, though just three of the runs were charged as earned. The Napavine defense struggled behind her, committing six errors, and Mossyrock’s defense also had six errors.

Taylen Evander tallied four hits in six trips to the plate, including a double, and she drove in two. Lyons helped herself with a pair of hits and three RBIs, and Lyla Kirkpatrick went 3 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Grace Pancake and Hayden Kaut also added two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Chesney Schultz led the Vikings with three hits, including a two-run home run, and she drove in four runs. Erin Cournyer and Ashley Schwartz both added two hits, and Cournyer drove in a run. Maci Rashoff drove in two runs and went 1 for 4.

Both teams will be back at home after the break on Monday, April 14. Napavine (6-1-1) will host Onalaska and Mossyrock (2-5) will welcome Adna.
