Timberwolves Blow Past Cardinals

The Morton-White Pass girls basketball team got nearly all the points it would need in the first quarter, running away from Winlock in a 71-24 blowout in Central 2B League play Thursday.

MWP’s Armstrongs combined to outscore the Cardinals by themselves, with freshman Malia Armstrong dropping 18 points and junior Natalia Armstrong scoring 14. Junior McKenzee Mays scored 16 points, and sophomore Kiera Miller made it four T-Wolves in double figures with 15.

The Timberwolves threw a knock-out punch in the first eight minutes, running a havoc-inducing press early and ending the opening quarter with a 23-2 lead. They’d hold Winlock to single figures in the second quarter as well to take a 41-11 advantage into the break, and while the Cardinals did outscore their guests in the third quarter, MWP laid one final hammer down with a 22-1 rout of a fourth.

We need to work on our confidence and (on) starting the game with confidence, not gaining it in the third quarter,” Winlock coach Dracy McCoy said.

Kindyl Kelly was the only Winlock player to reach double figures, scoring 13 points. Kiya Peppers had six. Angela Gil Munoz only scored one point but led the Cardinals with nine rebounds and also had four steals.

Winlock (1-2, 0-1 C2BL) will host Kalama on Friday, and Morton-White Pass (2-0, 1-0 C2BL) will host Rainier in Randle.
