Behind a pair of run-rule victories, the Pe Ell/Willapa Valley baseball team secured the No. 2 spot from the P2BL for the Class 2B District 4 tournament with a 15-2, 18-0 sweep over Raymond/South Bend on Saturday afternoon in South Bend.
Consistent offense fueled PWV (12-5, 8-2 P2BL) in Game 1. It plated two runs in the first, eight in the second and three in the fifth. Blane King roped a two-run double and Lucas Lusk poked through a two-run single in the second inning. The Titans registered 14 hits in 31 at-bats to just two strikeouts.
In the nightcap, PWV erupted for 15 runs in the top of the second. Eleven batters reached base before the first out was recorded. The first five runs were either by bases-loaded walks or hit by pitches before Mauricio Morales hit a two-run double and he capped the frame with a two-run base hit.
Liam Smaciarz struck out 10 RSB batters in the opener and Eddie Clements allowed just one hit and two walks in Game 2. The Titans will open the district tournament on Saturday against either C2BL’s third or seventh seed.
