The Pe-Ell Willapa Valley softball team came out on top of a defensive battle on Monday against Rochester, topping the Warriors 3-2.

Rochester’s Layna Demers and PWV’s Lauren Emery were stellar in the circle. Emery allowed just three hits and two runs (one earned) while walking three and striking out seven. In a losing effort, Demers allowed just seven hits and three runs, though none of them were earned, and she walked one and struck out seven.

The Titans took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on an error and an RBI groundout from Rilyn Channell. The Warriors responded in the top of the fifth, scoring on an error and a walk to tie the game at two.

Another error led to the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth, and that run held as the winner for the Titans.

Rochester (1-2) will return home to host Hoquiam on Wednesday, while the Titans (3-0) will host Chief Leschi for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
