Having a hard time with a high-pressure zone defense, the Toledo boys basketball team dropped its first game of the season to 1A Castle Rock, 74-55, Friday night.
The Riverhawks (1-1) got off a slow start, falling behind 20-8 in the first quarter and giving the Rockets plenty of chances for points in transition with turnovers. They just couldn’t dig themselves out of that early hole, as the Rockets finished with four double-figure scorers led by Trystin Marin’s 23. Marin had 19 in the first half, alone.
“We cut it to seven at one point, but the wheels just fell off a bit,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “It's a game of swings, we just didn’t have as many swings go our way.”
The Riverhawks were led again by Jake Cournyer’s 19 points, as well as Rogan Stanley (16 points) and Carson Olmstead (12 points) in double digits. Olmstead also finished with a team-high six boards.
The Riverhawks will look to rebound when they host Mount Vernon Christian for their next contest on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
